Pink United 2012 Raffle Items

This post is LOOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG overdue!!!  Sorry ladies.  It's been such a crazy last six months, and my internet connection at home doesn't like blogs (I keep having to reset the connection due to all the pictures).

So without further ado, here are the items I had made for my SGK team (Pink United) to raffle off to raise money so they could walk.  I took the year off from walking, and crewed the 3-Day for the first time.  As a crew member, there is no obligation to raise money, so I decided to help my teammates instead.

I made five cards to make a set, dabbled with making matching earrings and bracelet, and made two framed quotes.  I even threw in a baby-sized quilt I had made for a friend a few years ago, but the baby outgrew it before I finished it (OOPS).

Here are the cards:

Here is the jewelry:

The first quote is: Everyone deserves a lifetime.  It's one of SGK's most recognized quotes (and my favorite).  Our team captain ended up "winning" this one, and all the team members wrote little sayings of thanks to her which I added around the perimeter.

The second quote was one I saw on Facebook first, and decided I needed to use it.

And the quilt:

Hope you enjoyed them.

GO BIG - Paper Girls

This week's Paper Girls Challenge was to GO BIG!!!  We were supposed to use a larger size photo - 5x7 or bigger.  So I decided to use one of the many photos from my first 3-day walk.  It happened to be one of the port-o-potty lines!!!  At every pit stop, there was a line of port-o-potties for us to use, and we found it humorous, as it is rare to see so many at once.

Walking as far as we do also starts to get to your emotions and patience.  So one of the ways we tried to make ourselves laugh, was when we saw a sign announcing a pit stop, we would start saying that we needed to "go potty", which one time got us to "the loo".  You kind of had to be there to fully appreciate the humor in it.

Anyway, here is the LO:

The products I used were: SU In Color blue cs, and Pink Passion Ink; OT BC stamps and button; MAMBI paper; MM cheeky shimmer stickers - pink; cs scraps; MM glitter clears - flowers; lattice border punch.

I had fun making this LO.  Hope you have fun looking at it.

Paper Girls #13 - Birthdays

So after a tough challenge last time, Paper Girls decided to go easy on us (well at least me) this time.  They are at #13, and they went with a theme of Birthdays!!!  Now who doesn't need to create a birthday card or LO.  I know I have quite a few cards I need to make.

So I decided to make 2 cards.  However, these two are going to be another part of the raffle I mentioned last time to support my Pink United team.  So because of the cause, I had to incorporate pink in them.

The first card uses the following products:
Recollections white cs, EP Be Mine 6x6, velum, Deja View Wonderful Words rubons-birthday, Imaginisce to love and cherish flowers, Tattered Angels sunflower glimmer mist, BoBunny All stuck up brad, Bazzill paisley chips, TH iced spruce distressink, TH adirondack raspberry alcohol ink.

The second card (which I happen to like better) uses the following:
Recollections cream cs, Martha Stewart butterfly punch, MME OohLaLa for her 6x6, SU corner punch - ticket, MM celery ribbon, Deja View Wonderdul Words friends and birthday, vellum.

Well, I hope you enjoyed looking.  Come back soon for more items for the raffle.

Mesh for Paper Girls

So the Paper Girls Challenge this week (#12) was to create a project using mesh.  Well, this one stumped me a little bit.  I had never thought about doing something like this before, but I couldn't ruin my streak with their challenges now.  So, as I looked at their DT's examples, I got inspired by one of them - Amber - she used the mesh as a mask for misting.  So I tried this to.  I don't think mine turned out quite as well as hers did, partly because I think I was using a finer mesh than she did.

We had just finished a bag of clementines, so I snagged the mesh bag, cut it open and sprayed my glimmer mist over it onto my card stock.  You can see where the remainder of the glue from the label was, but I knew I would be covering that part, so I wasn't upset.

After I let that dry overnight, I started stamping different sentiments that lend themselves to the SGK 3-Day banners that are carried throughout the walks.  The intent of this project is to put it into a frame and use it as a raffle prize to raise money for my team's (Pink United) participation in the 60 mile walk through DC this year.

Then I cut out a couple sentiments using my Slice and adhered them using pop-dots.  Then I stamped the words "everyone deserves a lifetime" (one of SGK's phrases), fussy cut them, and mounted them on darker paper, and used pop-dots to adhere it to the cardstock.  Then I added some pink ribbon brads and some clear flowers to add some interest.  I still feel like something is missing, but I'm sure that will come about as I look at it and think about it.  I just needed to step away at this point.

Products used:  SU Naturals white cs, Slice, Think Pink design card, Expressions Family design card, FP Doodles and Things stamps, SU pink passion ink, SU regal rose ink, Tattered Angels sunflower glimmer mist, Clearly Wordsworth Happy stamps, MME Stella and Rose Hazel "memories" stamps, Recollections Doodle birthday stamps, brush markers, MM Fa La La stamps, OT BC stamps, OT BC brads, MM flowers bright glitter clears.

A sketch and a recipe

Yes, I did it once again - I combined two challenges together!!!  I can't believe how much time it really saves to do this.  Although I have to admit, this one took me a little longer to figure out just because the recipe was a very interesting one and I didn't want to stray too far from the sketch.  So here goes.

The sketch was from one of my fellow CC DT members that she made for the latest CropChocolate.com challenge.  We had to use this sketch and masking to create a project.

Oh how the ideas flowed.  I am on a kick right now to scrap the photos from my 2010 SGK 3-day walk, so I pulled out the 5x7 pictures, and picked one that I felt would work.  Then I pulled the recipe out from the Paper Girls Challenge Blog for their challenge this week and went to work figuring out how to combine them.  The recipe was: 1 photo, 2 journal cards, 3 ribbons/trims/twine, 4 stamped images, 5 non paper embellishments (brads, buttons, etc), and a bonus of 6 words in the title.  I have been having a lot of fun joining in on the challenges at PCG (they are up to 5 now), and haven't missed one yet (WOOHOO me!!!).

Here's what I came up with.  I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, except for the title.  I wish I was better at placing the letters so they are evenly spaced and fit all on one line.  The masking was done with a ribbon die-cut, a sponge and SU passion pink ink.

The background paper is from MME Kraft Fun Day Happy Days bundle (from CC).  The blue paper is from MME Stella and Rose Gertie (from CC).  The pink strips are from EP Be Mine 6x6 (from CC).

1 photo - self explanatary I hope.
2 journal cards - one cut from Be Mine paper, and one from Gertie - "Girly" sticker tag with date on it. 3 ribbons/trims/twine - yellow ribbon from Gertie, and two different colors of twine from Happy Days.
4 stamped images - heart, 2 sneakers and pink ribbon (from OT breast cancer set).
5 non paper embellishments - 2 different color buttons from Gertie, wood banner from Happy Days, flowers from MM glitter clears bright flowers (from CC), pink brad from Bo Bunny All Stuck Up (from CC).
6 words in title - I might have cheated here a little by using the numbers instead of the words, but I felt it had more impact that way.  Enjoy.

A sketch and an upcycled product

Here I go combining challeneges again.  This time it was Crop Chocolate's weekly challenge that was due March 20 - create a project using an upcycled flower.  And the other was the current Paper Girls challenge that is due today - use the sketch they gave.  Here is the sketch.

Something about this sketch spoke to me and said "one of those circles can be a flower"!!!  LOL

Then I had to figure out what I was going to use to make the upcycled flower.  A lot of the CC ladies used the packaging paper that comes with our CC orders, or soda cans, but I wanted to use something different.  Then when I saw one use a ribbon, and another use wire, it dawned on me that I could use....a SHOELACE.  And then I knew exactly what I was going to do.

The first year I did the SGK 3-day walk, I had orderd SGK 3-day shoelaces.  Well they ended up being too short, so I stashed them away in my box of SGK stuff to save as momentos.  Luckily I knew exactly where that box was, and I pulled one out.  It worked perfectly (in my humble opinion).

Here is the LO I ended up with.  I ended up rotating the sketch 90 degrees because the picture I wanted to use was horizontal.  The CC bought products I used were: MME quite contrary Little Miss Muffet paper pack (including 12x12 paper, "Celebrate" die-cut (HIP HIP HOORAY), die cut stickers (arrow, butterfly, leaves and buttons), matching alpha, "Delight" journal spot).  Then I added MAMBI breast cancer cardstock (the one with writing), Queen & Co felt fusion border, and of course the shoelace.

When I first finished this LO, I didn't really like it because the title blended into the background too much, especially the darker letters.  So I posted it on the CC chat page, and asked for advice.  As expected, I got some awesome ideas - outline it with pen (black or white), use glossy accent, and stickles.  Since I didn't have much time to play around with it, I chose the quickest and easiest option - I pulled out my white gel pen and outlined all the letters.  I think it really helps make it work - it really lightens up the left side of the page.

To make the flower, I simply used my glue dots, and twisted the shoelace.  I did "mount" it on a piece of vellum to reduce the exposure to the paper below.  Hope you enjoyed this.  I had fun creating it.

January CC Project - Song Inspired

So for January's DT project, we were required to make a project inspired by a song of our choice.  I decided to utilize this opportunity to create another layout for my SGK scrapbooks.  There are a lot of songs playing while we're walking (as a lot of the traffic and safety volunteers have their radios playing) and in camp to keep us motivated and moving.  One of those songs was actually the one playing while they sent us off from the opening ceremony - Katy Perrys' "Firework".  Here is that page:

The technique I highlighted for this project was using the Slice to dry emboss.  I used the Slice Design Card Summer, which has some fireworks on it.  Here is a closeup of this embossing (it's a little hard to see since it's on a light color paper):

Other products used are: MME Lush in pink, MM glitter clears - flowers bright and flowers red and pink, MM brads - mini silver circle, Mm brads - circle clear crystal, MM vellum oval tag, Melissa Frances vintage transfers - breast cancer rub-ons, OT breast cancer pink ribbon brads, and SU pink passion ink with daubers.  For additional information on how to do this, you can look here, on Crop Chocolate's blog.

Valentine's Day Cards - for sale

For my first fundraiser for the SGK 3-Day this year, I decided to see how well home made cards would sell at work.  I purposely made more than I knew I would sell, and I made them so that they could be used for anniversaries as well.  I also decided to make two different sizes to give some choices.

Here are the 5x7 cards:

I started these cards with using MM Love Struck banner kit, and then added MM Love Note 8x8 paper, MM fresh anthology ribbon - picot daffodil, MM Paperie Rouge - dimensional stickers, MM Love Struck rub-ons, SU label punch, and Mrs. Grossman's Valentine's Day stickers.

I also made 4x6 cards:

For these I started with MM Je t'Adore card set.  To them I added MM metal frame - gold flower - fleur d'or, MM epoxy frame - Autumn Splendor, MM vintage copper metal combo - family, MM metal frame - ornate oval, TH idea-ology - ornate plates, MM vellum tags - stars and hearts, MM ribbon labels - celebrate, SU brads, MM fresh anthology ribbon - picot daffodil, DCWV luxury stack - pearlized and metallic, red organdy sheer ribbon, and MM love struck rub-ons.

Inspiration of the PINK kind

Here's another LO I made for my SGK walk about the opening ceremony.  I was on a roll doing some LO's so I figured I would continue.  This one was inspired by the WeScrap forum challenges (although I didn't finish it in time to submit it - oh well).

For this LO, I used: misc patterned paper, OT breast cancer kit for the alpha (which I altered using espresso alcohol ink), sassafras cs alpha stickers - kelly green glitter, MM 5th avenue alpha, OT breast cancer stamps, SU pink passion ink, OT breast cancer flowers, MM crystal clear gem brads, and MME quite contrary - jack and jill - journal tag.

Just the beginning...

Way back when CC was havng tryouts for the design team, I had started this LO about the early morning happenings at the SGK 3-day.  But at the time I was having some trouble figuring out how to finish it off (like the exact title and journaling to use), so I put it to the side and created the LO about why I walk.  Recently I pulled this double page LO out to try to finish it, and did.  I think it ended up looking pretty cool in the end and expresses what it was like first thing.

I used: MM Dilly Dally paper, MM Chloe's Closet flower stickers, MM water color paper, MM embossed butterflies - antiqued silver, Sassafras cs alpha stickers - kelly green glitter, LYB dimensional flower, Slice card for the leaves (I don't remember which one), circle punches, American Traditional Design - cs alpha stickers, and SU Ballet Blue textured CS.

Teammates LO

So a couple weeks ago I made the hot air balloon treat holder, and it ended up really cute.  But, one part of the "it was supposed to be" story I didn't tell you was that when I was trying to make the heart, I started using 8x8 paper.  However, it was too small to create the look I wanted, so I had to switch to 12x12 paper.  Well, then I had these triangular pieces of pink paper, and of course I didn't want them to go to waste...LOL!!  So I made a LO using them for my SGK scrapbook!!!

For this one, I decided to create a starburst/sunshine kind of look, and the best picture I found to use was of our team!!!  Without a team, I don't think these walks would be possible and certainly wouldn't be as enjoyable!!!

For this LO, I used:  MM hullabaloo tags, SU cardstock, MM love notes 8x8, misc patterned paper for strips at bottom, OT breast cancer ribbon, MM paperie greenhouse shimmer alphas, MM watercolor brite snaps, and a journaling tag.

Recent LO's of SGK walk

Recently I decided to find some sketches online to try to inspire me to get some scrapping done.  I found one I liked - sketchinspiration.ning.com and I have been trying to participate in their weekly sketch challenge.  So far I have managed about every other week, which is actually pretty good for me.

Here is my LO I did for Sketch #301.

Here is my LO I did for Sketch #303.  For this one, the stars triggered my memory of "All Star" by Smash Mouth playing at the walk.  So I used that as the inspiration for me.  I don't know if you can see it, but I included what I felt was a pertinent part of the song on the LO (but I tried not to make it stand out too much).

I still have a lot more pictures from the walk to scrap, but I at least know I'm making progress.

New CC Focus Group

Starting February 1, there will be a new Focus Group for Crop Chocolate, so a couple weeks ago, the shoppers were allowed to submit a project to join the group.  Again, the DT members are automatically in, but we are encouraged to submit a project.  This time, we were given a sketch made by a very talented CC DT member.  I liked how it led me to one larger photo.  So I used it to highlight a very poignant picture we took during our 2010 SGK walk.  I used BG and SU paper, MM and OT embellishments and MM alphas.

CC Focus Group Projects

So shortly after the CC DT was chosen and introduced, CC started a Focus Group of shoppers to help with ideas, product reviews, and wishes.  The DT members were automatically included.  Each month we were asked to create a project following certain guidelines.  Here are those projects and the guidelines/rules we were asked to follow.

For August, we were asked to create a project based on a collage of nature pictures.  There was a stone fence, butterflies, flowers, and lots of colors involved.  So I came up with the following birthday card.

However, I forgot one very important rule about the projects: most of the products needed to be ones we had bought from CC.  And in this card, absolutely none of them were.  OOPS!!  So I had to start anew, and came up with a similar, but simplified version of the card which followed the rules.

For September, we were asked to create a project using an embellishment that we made.  I decided to use ribbon and create a special kind of border.  It's not my favorite project, but I think it works.

The guidelines for October were to use some kind of stitching - be it real or faux.  So I decided to make some thank you cards for my walk, and create a border using two different types of stitching.

With Thanksgiving coming up, for November's project we were asked to think about what we are grateful for and "Count our Blessings".  There are a lot of things I am grateful for, so I had a hard time coming up with a solid idea.  Finally, I decided on an LO about mine and DH's anniversary this year.  We hit 15 years this year, and I am very grateful that I found such a good man to have as my DH, who loves me for who I am, and puts up with all my quirks (and he knows I have a lot, LOL)!!  I am also grateful that my sister and her family live so close to us, and her kids are close in age to mine.  So DH and I decided to get away for a night (at a local B&B), and left the kids with my sister.  Unfortunately, I haven't gotten the pictures yet, but here is the LO.  The papers here are from EP's For the Record.  I also used American Craft Thickers, among a few others.

Then, in December, we were asked to go "old school".  Since I've only been doing this kind of thing for about 7 years, I decided to interpret this by using some of the first products I bought.  I still use them, and I know that they are still available in stores, but it was all I could think of.  I combined this challenge with one from Sketch Inspirations (Sketch #250) and used their LO sketch.  It also worked perfectly for scrapping some pictures I wanted to use of my DS.  For paper, I used EP's Wintertime.  The old school products I used were the felt border, edge scissors and photo corners.  The journaling card pulls-out.

For January, we were given another photo as inspirations.  This time it was of stained glass windows in a spiral shape.  I decided to use the bright colors and spiral shape in my project.  I made a birthday card that can be used for a kid or a man.  I decided to use the black as the background because the different parts of stained glass windows are usually separated by black strips.  I used EP's Happy Days 6x6 pad for the circles.

Thank you cards for my 2011 Susan G. Komen walk

This past year's walk was very amazing!!  It was emotional and fulfilling at the same time.  I was able to appreciate different things this time because I knew a lot of the things to expect from last year, especially the hard parts.  I was actually able to make it through without any major blisters this time.  There were a couple tiny ones that went away quickly, but that was nothing compared to last year.

Just like last year, I put a personal touch on the thank you notes to my major donors.  I am so grateful to all those who support me and believe in the fight against breast cancer, that I like to show my appreciation to them.  Here is the whole group of cards I made.

Here are some close up pictures of some of my favorites.

Baby, Retirement, and Thank you Cards

Here are some cards I've made within the last 6 months or so.  Unfortunately, I don't remember all the products I used for them off the top of my head.  If you see something you like and aren't sure where it came from, email me, and I can try to figure it out for you.

This is a retirement card for a very dear lady that was very influential in mine and DH's relationship.  She was the contact person at the church near college for the Campus Ministry program.  This past June, she retired, and we went down to share in the celebration of her wonderful career.

This next card is one I made while participating in a card tag through Crop Chocolate.  It was the first time I had done something like this, but it was fun to do.  I made it with the intention of using it as a thank you for my breast cancer walk.

In fact I had so much fun with the first card tag, that I participated again.  I really liked this one also, and the intent again was to use it as a thank you for the walk.  It opens slightly differently than usual.

The next card I made was a baby shower card for someone at work.

So, this past summer, we spent our vacation with a really, really good friend from college and her family at her mom's shore house.  It was an awesome trip, and I was actually able to relax (unusual for me while staying at someone else's house).  I made the following thank you cards for my friend and her mom for letting us invade their space.

Finally, here is a baby card I made at the request of my DD's daycare teacher so that she could give it to a friend who just had a baby.  The theme of the baby's room was monkeys.  So I decided to take a baby card I had made before and personalize it for her.  I love the way the one monkey looks like it's hugging the bow.
